Communication is a portrait of absence. The work depicts a fortune teller reading the tarots cards to the man at the left. Upon close inspection, it becomes clear that, although the candles and chair are reflected in the mirror, the man is not; the fortune teller is shock to realize that the man that sits before her is an apparition. The painting was executed throughout 2005 in antique oil techniques on gesso-prepared mahogany. The work was included at the 70th mid-year show at The Butler Institute of American Art during the summer of 2006.
